On Saturdays, I spend time with my father. We typically eat lunch and go on an adventure of some kind. One of our favorite things to do is visit a small local thrift store to see what treasures we might find. A few months ago, when we visited the store, I met a man whom my father knew and we began talking about life, which then led to learning of the recent book he has published. A book about Ancient Wisdoms for Modern Problems called Weltonisms. As you might imagine, his name is Welton James. He had a vibrant energy that was full of love and life. I plan to one day publish a book, so I began asking questions about his publication. As he shared his journey and described his book, I knew I had to purchase it to share with others. He explained that his grandmother used metaphors and analogies often to teach and over the years he had accumulated so many that he decided to share them through publication. He furthered them as teachings by citing that he encourages the use of one at a time with a child to see what perspective they might gain and then hold onto, carrying the lesson forward. When he explained it in this way, I couldn’t wait to get the book and apply this practice with my daughter.
I ordered the book and received it about two weeks after our meeting. I loved it so much that I asked if I could I share his link on my site so others could do the same. Since receipt, I have posted one a week on my refrigerator to discuss with my daughter and her friends. It is a subtle way to promote growth in my home now that I doubt I will ever discontinue. I am a lifelong learner and hope I impart this to my child and now you!
“Gratitude is the soil that grows balance”……..Welton James
